Fished today 8/5/08 with Kevin B and my brother John on an Open Boat make up trip from Saturday....The two other guys scheduled Saturday couldn't get off work today. We left at 3:30AM from Shinnicock LI and had lines in by 6:20 AM. south of the Dip in 700 feet of water trolling south.
Within 15 minutes we had a White Marlin come crash the spread and take off on a new Trophy Lure Spreader Bar I got from John @ Trophy Tackle... Thanks John! It tracked awesome all day! She made 6 or 7 awesome arial jumps greyhounding and than spit the hook....OK Its gonna be good today..... We found some porposies and whales ( the tell tale signs) and trolled around them for for quite a while for not a touch...we worked our way south down to 500 fathoms and it was like a ghost town! water temp 76-77 blue green kinda cloudy. We came back up towards the dip and worked the area again around the porpoises...Nada.... Changed course and trolled east to the middle grounds and to the NW corner of the Tails, picked up a few Skip Jacks and that was it even thought the water quality improved to a nice clear blue. And basically thats how it went for the whole day.... EXCEPT for this little birdie that paid us a visit....I thought we were gonna knock em dead after this little fella landed on our boat for a ride around 1 PM...good karma u know! But that wasn't to be for us today.
Oh well, still a day on the water and thats good enough for me! Looking back in self analysis maybey i should of bridled those skippies and focused on Marlin for the day?? Talk on the radio was of near 0 hooks ups on tuna from the dip to the tails and everyone was very frustrated. 2 Blue Marlins were landed and released though around 500 lbs on other boats. Congrats to those captains & crews! Kevin it was great meeeting and fishing with you and thanks for the hickory smoked mako steaks you brought on board! They were awesome! Thanks! tight lines all
